Having difficulties keeping up with fashion trends? This is a quick fix to what you’re missing among Taylorians on Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.
1. Birkenstock footwear

From it being worn by people all around the world, Birkenstock has made its way to Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus as this famous footwear has been spotted on many students.
The humble beginning of Birkenstock was in 1774 when the original Mr. Birkenstock, Johann Birkenstock worked as a shoemaker in a small German village. A trademark by Birkenstock, “footbed” footwear was an idea to transform the traditional shoe to orthopaedic footwear by Konrad Birkenstock in the 1890s.
Birkenstock has over 400 different styles to offer today. Every year Birkenstock introduces wide range of unique and most importantly comfortable footwear.
Are Birkenstocks becoming a trend among Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus students? Or is it already a trend among students? These are some of the things students had to say.
School of Hospitality student, Lim Yee Teng only wears her bright yellow Birkenstocks on Fridays as Hospitality students are only allowed to wear casual on Fridays. “For our school, we are only allowed to wear casual on Fridays.” Lim added: “Ya. (Birkenstock) considered a nice trend. You can see others wearing the same.”
A student of Foundation in Natural and Build Environment, Jia Ying and two students of School of Architecture and Design, Julius Khor and Chester Tiong all agreed that Birkenstocks are very comfortable and they can wear it for a full day with back-to-back classes. Khor added: “It would fit the shape of the foot.”
However a disadvantage Jia Ying stressed was: “When it rains (Birkenstock) can’t get wet because you’ll have to use hair dryer.”
2. Printed pants

Printed pants were once a trend among many in the 50s and it has recently made its way back. In the 1920s Coco Chanel introduced trousers to women and since then it has transformed fashion.
These are the thoughts of printed pants among Taylor’s University girls when we circled the grounds of Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus.
The amazing thing about printed pants is it can be found at just about anywhere. Foundation in Communication student, Leanne Goh said “The ones overseas are cheaper and nicer. The ones here are expensive unless you go Penang to the pasar malam.”
A student of Diploma in Culinary Arts mentioned about the designs of the printed pants being unique. Shaheen Pokun was spotted sporting a pair of printed pants and she said “It’s nice, it’s beautiful.”
These fashionable pants are comfortable and handy. Goh added “When I have a lot of classes because it’s more comfortable.”
Diploma in Communications student, Sarah Ngai explained: “Normally the material is cotton and not like jeans that are tight fitted. It(printed pants) gives a more lay back feel.”
3. Sweat pants

Are you a gym junky? And you want to follow the trend? Sweatpants or sometimes known as joggers is a trend worn by many men of Taylor’s University.
For days when you’re rushing for the assignment deadline and you have to make an all-nighter, sweatpants are a good option.
Based on experience, Foundation in Natural and Build Environment student, Tan Min Chuen said “Sometimes when we need to overnight in campus for our project, this is more comfortable.” Tan enthusiastically added “It’s just very comfortable.”
However, gym junkie Ken Cheok, a student of Internal Business Marketing wears them almost all the time. He explained, “Because I go to the gym after my classes. I just have to change my top.”
Cheok also added how simple it is when it comes to sweatpants saying, “It’s just for comfort. And it is actually easy to dress up. You don’t have to think of colours and all. I just put on the pants and a top.”
The best thing about all these items is they are useful for students as they are comfortable for an entire day.
So Taylorians are you ready to get yourself involved in these trends?
